I bought my house 5 years ago. At the time we had one child and our house was big enough for the three of us – it had a lovely garden gazebo and enough lawn for all of us to move around in. I could either build on the side or could build up into the roof space. Each has got its negative points (building on the side would reduce the side of our garden or extending into the roof space would reduce the amount of storage space in our home) but we would have to look into what would be economically viable for us to do so. Either way I believe that it would be cheaper to extend the size of our home rather than move into a bigger house.
