It’s almost Sunday and the excitement is killing me.

I am a huge fan of Dethklok. I honestly have no clue on how I got to be such a fanatic… it just sorta happened. I’ve professed my love for the virtual band time and time again here, and now it’s time to see the band live, up front and personal. Attendees will be David my boyfriend, Joser my best friend and yours truly.

Despite my love for all things rock and metal, I have only gone to one other concert before, The Rob Zombie American Witch tour. I learned a lot of lessons that day, so here are some Rock Concert Tips:

  1. Do not wear glasses (Gives me an excuse to wear my red contacts again)
  2. Do not wear earrings
  3. Be prepared to fall into a mosh pit
  4. Being at the stage is the most awesome experience ever; make sure your partner can hack it
  5. Take a fanny pack small enough that you can hide it under your clothes (for phone, money and camera)
  6. Be prepared for fights
  7. Bring Halls Lozenges for post-concert voice loss

I want to make sure that this time I don’t show up to work a bruised, voice-less mess. It is Dethklok though, so getting mutilated might be worth while.  In my opinion, its not fun unless you’re up front at the stage. So that’s why we’re getting there early and running like hell as soon as the doors open.

BUT…were not just going for the concert. The concert itself is on Monday (which is a terrible day to have a concert by the way) but we’re arriving in my hometown, El Paso, TX on Sunday morning and staying till Tuesday.  Las Cruces is only about 20 minutes away so El Paso is where we’re going to stay and play.

Hell, I’m only 23. I’ve got to act my age every once in a while. Get away from responsibility for just a leeeetle bit.

The possibilities on venues are truly endless. Bar-n-Grills, Night Clubs, Gentlemen’s Clubs, College parties….the list goes on. Personal favorites of mine are The O.P (also known as The Old Plantation), The Tool Box,  and The Mining . However, since my best friend is not gay, I’ll avoid the usual haunts and opt for a more ‘straight’ environment.  Juarez  was also a very cool place to kick it, but that was before it became a fucking slaughterhouse.

Tentative Schedule of Events

  • Shopping (Cielo Vista or Sunland Park)
  • Test drive the car I really want to buy (Mazda RX-8)
  • Go partying
  • Get to Las Cruces early for the concert
  • Party some more

That’s it! I hope to share some pictures and mini updates during the trip. You can follow me on Twitter @crysticouture and you can also follow my buddy Joser @joserh. Get on it!

  1. Yeah, I remember my concert days… oh the irony of it all! I'm 42 and I've had my share of madness in the 80's and 90's. To begin, in 1984 I went to my first concert with my roommate (she bought the tickets) it was a surprise! when I least expected it, I was on the bus with her towards Downtown El Paso too! we walked to the Coliseum all the way from the "placita" (like a good 15 miles away!) but it was worth it. When we got close, we hooked up with some guys that were going to the concert as well and we smoked out a couple of Bob Marley's! Then my roommate had the bright idea to get a huge bottle of Mad Dog 20/20. We chugged it down at a gas station bathroom across the street from the Coliseum, it tasted great! it was cold that day in October 23, 1984 but nobody told me that when the cold wind hits you…well, you know what I mean… I was f**ked up!! that didn't matter, I was feeling great! These guys dropped us off at the main entrance,(they said they would hook up later with us and look for us inside) I kid you not, but when I got out of the car, I actually felt I was floating!! It was like there was a 2 second delay from the moment I took a step and when I actually felt the floor!! I told my roommate: "I'm floating, I'm floating!" she just snickered, then giggled, then actually laughed! she said: "Ha, me too!" We ran as fast as we could to get to the front of the stage and slammed ourselves on the security fence right by the speakers!! Back then it was sheer madness! people brushing against your boobs, grabbing your ass and out of nowhere, passing joints like freakin' candy, (well, I guess people were in the spirit of Halloween already) When the lights dimmed, then it went dark, my heart was pounding like crazy! suddenly, the darkness was lifted by pyrotechnics of a once popular band called Helix, followed by Whitesnake and the main headliner, was Quiet Riot. Oh, the big hair, the tights, the hotness of the legendary 80's hair metal! Dudes were hot back then with their long locks and sweet colognes! My next concerts were AC/DC with Fly On The Wall Tour, followed by Skid Row (just to see up close beautiful Sebastian Bach), then came Ratt- "Out Of The Cellar" Van Halen, Ronnie James "DIO" with "Last In Line" and a few years later Dokken. a couple of years later was Kiss in 1996 Tour (went with my husband) who's excitement at the Las Cruces Pan Am Center was extremely contained, I thought he was a rock freak, but realized and noticed he was uncomfortable, so my years of concert-tokin'-madness was over, but not for long, at the time my daughter was only 10 years old, little did I know she inherited my madness for rocking out to metal like me!! Because when she turned 21 she took me to a Rob Zombie concert for my 39th birthday!! It was great! Some things changed from my back-then-craziness, but I still rocked out, jumped up and down, sang to the lyrics, I also saw this poor kid trying desperately to light up a joint! the last of his matches went out, he had no lighter (neither did I) But saw someone who did and asked to borrow it (it was given to me after all)and soon this kid started lighting it up with no success until I took it and "sparked it up" took a substantial hit, and…Voila, it was lit. I guess you never get too old for classic behavior huh? I don't get stoned as I would like to, my husband is a prude, he's not fun and I usually have to wait for my daughter to come and visit me to create some mild madness and low giggles, red eyes, thirst and munchies! Yay for all those who live to rock out, I've always said this to everyone, even my then friends: "When I die, bury me deep. Lay some speakers by my feet. Wrap two headphones on my head. And Rock and Roll me when I'm dead" Yes!Yes! "Let's all Rock Out with our Wienners out!!"
