Dish Network

I was really happy with Dish, that is until my contract ended with them and they decided to charge me like $20 extra for basic service and Americas Top 100. I called them up and asked them if I could just extend my contact and lock in a new rate somehow. Believe it or not, they don’t. I guess they don’t believe in retention.

My Dish Receiver is a Dish 625, and I noticed that it has a USB port in the back. After a little research, this USB port is pretty much useless, but there is a method of transferring any recordings from the box to a PC.

Here is a detailed explanation on how to do this.

All I need to do is buy a special cable and connect the HDD from the 625 over to the PC. So easy. Thank goodness I’ve got a technical mind, or else this task might have been daunting. I just want to make sure that I get all my Metalocalypse episodes backed up before I cancel my contract with Dish. Having all the other recorded movies on backup would be kind of nice too. Then I could just transfer any mpeg from computer to computer or even burn myself a DVD.

Once I get the cable, I’ll make a video or something, and put it up on YouTube. Apparently the only How To’s that have been made are only for the ancient Dish DVR’s.
