So last night I saw the media maelstrom that is Twilight… I have to admit that this is probably one of the only occurrences in which I have seen a movie before I read the actual book. I was not disappointed, and the movie captured me so deeply that I am now planning to read the entire series, if time will allow it.

The only slight complaint that I have about the movie is that it SEEMED terribly rushed. I just felt the production team had more than likely decided to skimp on several parts of the book and went with the major scenes instead.

Robert Pattinson, who plays Edward Cullen and Kristen Stewart, who plays Bella, have an amazing amount of on-screen chemistry, which makes for a deeply engaging watch. I definetly became enamored with the story itself, and I am glad that such bright and talented actors were chosen. Seriously, I would have never thought that someone like Kristen and Robert would have had such a connection, but its undeniable.

Throughout the movie, I had a nagging feeling that I had seen this actor before…and then I realized “It’s Cedric Diggory!” Good lord I am a nerd. For those who don’t know, Cedric Diggory is the unfortunate chap in the 4th installment of the Harry Potter franchise, The Goblet of Fire, who is killed at Voldemorts’ hands. Cedric Diggory is described in the novel as a very handsome fellow not unlike the Edward character in Twilight.

Perhaps Robert Pattinson has become the poster boy for the classy, white, handsome boy with a wild gleam in his eyes. He’s definetly a different sort of white…not Seth Rogen white, not Hugh Jackman white…just a completely different type of white that makes you forget he’s white.

Perhaps I should stop.

So this, dear readers , is my heartfelt reaction to the movie Twilight. I will definetly be one of the first in line to see New Moon, but not before I read the book of course.

  1. I was a big Patrica Highsmith fan and had read the whole Ripley series before the films came out. When Damon appeared as Ripley I was like.. what the hell? The entire point of the book was changed in order for Ripley to be the “hero” while in the book, the writer forced you to be perfectly objective or even to relish his evilness. The funny thing is, people that had not read the book(s) thought the film was wonderful and could not understand why I sneered at the film!

  2. That really depends on the audience…this is definetly worth its weight in gold to me, as I enjoy love stories, which Twilight definetly is. For the action lovers, and Lost Boys fans out there, this movie will not satisfy your bloodlust. There are very brief sequences of action, and are in no way the pinnacle of the movie.
